As part of our research on the Travel habits of Nigerians in 2022, ATQNews conducted a survey among the leading domestic tour operators in Nigeria. They were asked about the Destinations they sold in 2022 and how many people Visited the destinations.
The tour operators included Shimmers production services, Ebuking tour, Global Anago Adventures Limited, Quotaway services, The Smiley’s place travels, Butterfly tourism, Nigerian Tourism lovers, Esbeecee entertainment, PnG Travels, Itravels & Tours, Naija Explorers, and 3Cords Leisure and vacation.
The Results were Collated and ranked according to the most visited by Tourists using these Tour Operators.
From historic sites to stunning natural landscapes, these destinations offer something for everyone.

Leading the list is Badagry town, a historic town located in Lagos State. Badagry is known for its role in the transatlantic slave trade, and visitors usually tour the town’s many museums and monuments to learn about this important chapter in Nigeria’s history. The oldest Storey Building in Nigeria and other Colonial buildings are to be found in Badagry. The Slave point of no Return is a very popular Spot.
Tarkwa Bay, a beautiful waterfront with lovely beaches located in Lagos, is a popular destination for tourists. A lot of Nigerians visited the beach due to its wide range of activities; visitors enjoy swimming, sunbathing, and water sports at this pristine beaches. A popular spot for camping, picnics and barbecues.

Lagos beaches, in general, are a delight for tourists. From the bustling activities of Landmark beach to the quieter shores of Ilashe beach house, other beaches include: Jara beach, Wave beach, Lighthouse beach, Sencillo beach and Santa beach. In fact there are no shortages of beautiful beaches to explore in Lagos.

Art lovers will want to check out the Nike Art Gallery, This is is one of Nigeria’s hidden treasures. Located in Lekki, Lagos, the four-story building comprises an art gallery and textile museum featuring over 25,000 pieces. This gallery showcases the work of Nigerian artists. It is the most popular Destination for Non Nigerian Visitors.

Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, is also a popular destination for tourists. With its modern architecture and bustling nightlife, Abuja offers a different experience from the Katampe Hills touted as the Geographical centre of Nigeria to Jabi Lake and the Architectural marvels of Government Institutions. Another popular hotspot is the The Cave Restaurant in Abuja, Nigeria. KAPADOCCIA RESTAURANT also known as The Cave Restaurant is an innovative, fine dining restaurant modelled and named after Cappadocia ~ a Cave City in Turkey famous for its unique rock formations.

Speaking of natural landscapes, the Obudu Mountain Resort in Cross River State at about 1800m above Sea level is a stunning destination that should not be missed. This is one of Africa’s finest and most interesting and spectacular tourist destination. Obudu Mountain Resort is located in the Sankwala highlands of Cross River State at about 45 miles from the border with Cameroon.

The National Museum in Lagos State is another must-visit for history buffs. This museum showcases items from the nation’s numerous ethnic groups as well as displays on Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage. Also, it houses a noteworthy collection of Nigerian artwork, which also includes sculptures, statuary, and archaeological and ethnographic artifacts. Finally, Osun State, located in the southwestern part of Nigeria, is known for its many historic sites and natural wonders.
