As part of activities marking World Tourism Day 2026, the Kogi State Hotels and Tourism Board has commenced the environmental clean-up and restoration of two historic European cemeteries in Lokoja.
The exercise, which will continue until Sunday, 27 September 2026, is aimed at promoting the preservation of Kogi State’s historical heritage and ensuring that important tourism assets are properly maintained.
The celebration will culminate on 27 September 2026 with a modest cultural and hospitality event featuring:
1 Exhibition of Kogi traditional attire and cultural heritage;
2 Presentation of three varieties of indigenous Kogi cuisine;
3 Traditional refreshments including palm wine, zobo and kunu;
4 Traditional dance and cultural performances;

An Ayo competition to promote indigenous games;
Music and entertainment; and Brief remarks on the importance of tourism to the development of Kogi State.
The activities are designed to demonstrate that tourism goes beyond hotels and accommodation. It encompasses history, culture, cuisine, traditional games, fashion, entertainment and the responsible preservation of our heritage assets.
