Africa: Air Peace Flight Skids Off Port Harcourt Runway

An aircraft belonging to Nigeria’s largest carrier, Air Peace skidded off the runway at the Port Harcourt Airport domestic wing.

The flight numbered 5N BRN, was flying from Abuja to Port Harcourt when it skidded off the Port Harcourt International Airport runway at about 1500hours.

According to a statement from the federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, the incident occurred during a heavy downpour at the airport.

The statement said there were no casualties however, as all 87 passengers and 6 crew members on board the flight were safely evacuated.

It said the runway is already been cleared by the Authority so that normal flight operations can continue.

Meanwhile, the Accident Investigation Bureau, AIB, says it has dispatched its investigators to the site of the Air Peace incident in Port Harcourt Airport.

In a statement, the AIB says, the airline immediately notified the bureau on the incident.
