The Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) has officially welcomed TAAG Angola Airlines as its newest member, aiming to strengthen air connectivity across Africa, Europe, and the Americas.
This move is expected to enhance aviation ties between continents, offering more seamless travel options for passengers and boosting trade relations.
According to travelandtourworld.com, the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) is delighted to welcome TAAG Angola Airlines as a new member. As Angola’s national carrier, also recognized as TAAG – Linhas Aéreas de Angola, the airline is pivotal in linking significant locations across Africa, Europe, and the Americas. Operating from its central hub in Luanda, TAAG facilitates domestic and international travel, with important flights to Havana, Cuba, and Brazil. These routes enhance connections between Africa and the Americas, enriching economic, cultural, and familial interactions between the regions.

“Joining ALTA empowers the company’s reputation within the industry and it´s a strong statement about TAAG Angola Airlines’ growth footprint, as in the long term, we intend to capture and facilitate traffic between the Americas and Africa, providing passengers from those regions with a value-added alternative for connecting with Europe, and vice-versa, via the Luanda Hub,” says, Nelson de Oliveira, CEO at TAAG.
Botelho highlights the significant growth in connectivity between African and Latin American markets in 2024. From January to July, there were 1,268 flights connecting Africa with Latin America and the Caribbean, offering 378,000 seats. This marks a substantial increase of 108% in seats available and a 97% rise in the number of flights compared to the same period in 2023. Additionally, the number of routes between these regions has grown by 50%; there are now four direct routes, up from three last year. This trend is expected to continue, with a projected average annual growth rate of 5.5% between Africa and South America, 3.8% between Africa and Central America, and 3.8% between Africa and the Caribbean over the next two decades.
TAAG Angola Airlines is enhancing its fleet as part of its modernization efforts, having incorporated one of the fifteen A220s from the Airbus order and anticipating the arrival of four B787s from Boeing, which will feature the airline’s new corporate branding. TAAG’s diverse fleet supports its ability to provide comprehensive passenger and cargo transport solutions, strengthening its role in fostering global connectivity and economic development.
