ASKY Airlines has officially launched operations in Nouakchott, Mauritania, reinforcing its commitment to bridging Africa’s fragmented aviation network.
Speaking at a reception dinner held at the FASQ Hotel in Nouakchott, ASKY CEO Esayas Woldemariam Hailu emphasized the significance of the new route in improving intra-African connectivity.
“I want to thank Baba Ahmed, Director of the Civil Aviation Authority for Mauritania, for supporting this milestone,” Hailu said. “From Praia in the West to Nairobi in the East, Johannesburg in the South, and now Nouakchott in the North—ASKY is here to connect Africa.”

The airline’s expansion into Mauritania is part of a broader strategy to address the continent’s chronic aviation challenge: poor connectivity. In response, ASKY has formed a strategic partnership with Air Mauritania, aiming to facilitate smoother, faster, and more frequent travel across Africa.
“Imagine having breakfast in Mauritania, lunch in Lomé, and dinner in Johannesburg. This is not a dream—it’s what we are making possible,” Hailu declared.

Beyond transportation, ASKY intends to promote Mauritania’s rich cultural and historical heritage across its 30 destinations. “Mauritania, the birthplace of the Almoravids who once ruled up to Spain, has a story to tell. Its beaches, its history—these are treasures we will help the world discover,” he added.
With this move, ASKY not only connects cities but also cultures and economies, filling critical gaps in Africa’s air transport landscape.
