The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has assured travellers and stakeholders of heightened Ebola preparedness measures across the country’s international airports following recent Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) concerns in parts of Central Africa.

In a press release issued on May 20, FAAN said it has intensified passenger surveillance and health monitoring in collaboration with Port Health Services, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), and other relevant agencies. The authority noted that particular attention is being given to passengers arriving from high-risk regions.

According to the statement signed by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, passengers are currently undergoing screening for symptoms associated with Ebola, while any suspected case would be immediately isolated and subjected to further medical examination in accordance with national and international health protocols.

FAAN also disclosed that it has strengthened coordination with key stakeholders, improved staff sensitisation, and reinforced emergency response procedures to ensure swift action if required.

The authority stressed that there is presently no confirmed case of Ebola in Nigeria, but reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining safe airport operations and safeguarding public health.

Passengers were advised to remain calm, cooperate with health screening procedures, and promptly report any symptoms to health officials.
