The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed a fire outbreak at Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, with emergency response teams working to fully contain the incident.
In an official update, FAAN stated that its firefighting units were immediately deployed and are continuing efforts to curtail the blaze, while the orderly evacuation of passengers and airport personnel remains ongoing.
To reinforce its response operations, FAAN activated mutual aid arrangements, calling in additional support from the Lagos State Government, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, alongside other relevant emergency agencies.
Authorities reassured the public that no loss of life has been recorded as of the latest briefing. FAAN emphasized that all necessary safety protocols are being implemented to protect lives and property within and around the terminal.
While the cause of the fire has not yet been disclosed, officials said further verified updates would be provided as the situation develops.
Passengers have been advised to remain calm and comply with instructions from airport and emergency personnel as containment efforts continue.
