Aviation: Istanbul is the World’s most Connected Airport, Leading Frankfurt, Paris Charles de Gaulle in 2024 global Rankings

Istanbul Airport has been named the most connected airport in the world for 2024, topping the latest global rankings.

Frankfurt and Paris Charles de Gaulle airports followed closely, showcasing Europe’s dominance in air travel connectivity.

According to iol.co.za, the aviation analytics firm Cirium conducted research revealing airports from around the world serving the most destinations.

The airline said that the data from Citrium is based on the first half of 2024 and found that Istanbul is the only airport in the world serving more than 300 unique destinations.

Istanbul Airport is home to Turkish Airlines, which is also one of the best-connected airlines globally. The airline operates a flight every 59 seconds, connecting to more countries than any other airline and has become a vital link in global air travel.

“Serving nearly 90 million passengers annually, Istanbul Airport offers unparalleled connectivity with 1 300 daily flights to 315 destinations across every inhabited continent.

“Its strategic location ensures seamless journeys to the farthest corners of the globe, making it a top choice for international travellers,” read a statement on behalf of Turkish Airlines.

The airline also said that through its strategic location, luxurious amenities, and cultural offerings, Istanbul Airport has re-imagined what it means to be a global hub, solidifying its reputation as the busiest and best airport in the world.

“Istanbul Airport is more than a transit point—it’s a destination in its own right. With the world’s largest terminal under one roof, passengers can enjoy a unique experience while waiting for their flights,” said the airline.

1   Istanbul Airport. (309 unique nonstop destinations).

2   Frankfurt Airport. (296).

3  Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport. (282).

4   Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. (270 = tie).

4   Chicago O’Hare International Airport (270 = tie).

6   Dubai International Airport. (269).

7   Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. (261).

8  Shanghai Pudong International Airport. (243).

9   Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. (237).

10  Rome Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino Airport. (234).
