Colin Kaepernick has a white mother and an African-American father. Most of us know this. He also essentially lost his high-paying NFL job (and career) for making a stand against injustice. Now Marcellus Wiley says Kaepernick can’t feel “full weight” of injustice because of his “mixed race” heritage.

It all started during a press conference for the controversial Roc Nation and NFL partnership. Kaepernick was “caught in the crossfire when JAY-Z responded to questions about the national anthem protest that he [Kaepernick] spearheaded in 2016 to raise awareness towards the issues of racial injustice and systematic oppression in the United States,” TK reported.

“I think that we forget that Colin’s whole thing was to bring attention to social injustice,” JAY-Z said. “In that case, this is a success. This is the next thing because there’s two parts of the protest.”

“Many have accused the rapper of selling out Colin Kaepernick (Jay once wore his jersey and allegedly told Travis Scott not to perform at the Superbowl),” NewsOne repeated.

Supporting Jay-Z’s deal, however, was former NFL player Marcellus Wiley and in the process Kaepernick’s name and reputation got caught up in the mix. Wiley expressed on his FS1 show “Speak For Yourself” that he questioned if Kaepernick could ever feel “the full weight” of injustice since he was of “mixed race,” Complex reported.

“Kaepernick comes from a situation where he never felt the full weight of these injustices,” Wiley said. “This is a mixed race guy who was raised by a white family from Wisconsin to central California. Respect — that does not disqualify you from talking for us but when you make missteps and miscalculations, oh, it comes back into play.”

Wiley even questioned Kaep’s girlfriend’s Nessa Diab background, saying her ethnicity is “not Black.” Nessa’s parents are from Egypt.
