News: CAAP Secretary General, Madu Chikwendu Congratulates New PALU President, Urges Joint Action Against Content Piracy in Africa

Madu C. Chikwendu, Secretary General of the Confederation of African Audiovisual Professionals (CAAP), has congratulated Tewodros Getachew of Ethiopia on his election as President of the Pan African Lawyers Union (PALU).

In his message, Chikwendu emphasized the need for strategic collaboration between legal and creative sectors to combat the growing challenge of unauthorized broadcast and content piracy across Africa.

“Sadly the blatant heisting of content via illegal transmissions by some broadcast stations has moved from mischief to blatant criminality ” the front line Nollywood Filmmaker opined on the sidelines of the  Gala Nite rounding off the PALU Week in Abidjan Cite d’ Ivoire on Friday , June 28 , 2025 at the exquisite SOFITEL Ivoire.

CAAP SG further disclosed that they were in talks with relevant non-governmental and intergovernmental agencies to not only halt this trend but also make wholesome and premium African content available to broadcast stations at a competitive cost.
