United States airport, Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport has witnessed the largest growth in air cargo volume globally among the Top 20 busiest airports according to the most recent World Airport Traffic Data by Airports Council International (ACI).
According to ACI, global volumes experienced a year-over-year decrease of 6.7% (-2.6% compared to 2019), totaling close to 117 million metric tonnes in 2022. The decline can be attributed to ongoing geopolitical tensions and disruptions to global trade and supply chains. The top 20 airports accounted for approximately 42% (49.5 million metric tonnes) of global air cargo volumes.
Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport witnessed the largest growth in cargo volume among the top 20 airports, with an impressive increase of 16.8%. This airport serves as Amazon Air’s primary U.S. Hub and DHL Express’ Global Superhub for the Americas.
ACI World Director General, Luis Felipe de Oliveira, emphasized the resilience of airports in the face of cost pressures and labor market challenges, stating, “Airports have once more proven their resiliency as reflected in the key findings from the ACI World Airport Traffic Dataset. As always, reliable data remains fundamental to our advocacy and development of timely airport guidance.”
