Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi, Kano State’s newly appointed Commissioner of Commerce, Investment, and Industry, has pledged to enhance the ease of doing business in the state.
Sagagi outlined his vision to create a conducive environment for foreign investment, accelerate industrialization, and stimulate the growth of local enterprises. His plans aim to position Kano as a hub for commerce and industry in Nigeria.
According to solacebase.com, speaking at the handover ceremony on Thursday, Sagagi highlighted his primary responsibilities as creating wealth, generating employment, reducing poverty, and diversifying the state’s economy.
“Our mission is to ensure Kano reclaims its status as the centre of commerce by fostering economic growth and providing opportunities for both local and foreign investors,” he stated.
SolaceBase reports that the commissioner unveiled plans to operationalize government centres, such as the one in Kura, which he believes will serve as a catalyst for job creation and economic activities.
“These centers are crucial for creating jobs. My vision is to see the Kura centre alone create a minimum of 100 to 240 jobs this month,” he revealed.
In addressing challenges faced by Kano’s industries, Sagagi commended the establishment of the Power and Energy Ministry, which he believes will tackle energy issues and lower costs for small-scale businesses.
He expressed optimism that the initiative would not only attract investors but also support local businesses in achieving sustainable growth.
He reaffirmed his dedication to implementing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s economic agenda, which focuses on innovation, industrial expansion, and job creation.
“This ministry will be a reservoir of knowledge for entrepreneurs and a driving force for Kano’s economic transformation. Together, we will make Kano thrive as a center of commerce and industry,” he declared.
Meanwhile, the outgoing commissioner, Adamu Aliyu Kibiya, who has been reassigned to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, extended his best wishes to Sagagi, expressing confidence in his ability to lead effectively.
