The Lagos State Government is preparing to charge five individuals, including a birthday celebrant and an event planner, for allegedly causing a traffic disruption during a recent event.
Authorities claim the group obstructed vehicular movement, prompting legal action for the public inconvenience caused.
According to punchng.com, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, stated on Monday that the individuals were arrested on Saturday, October 19, 2024, for blocking Raymond Njoku Road in Southwest, Ikoyi, during a birthday celebration.
Wahab wrote on X.com, “The Lagos State Government arrested individuals, including the celebrant, event planner, musician, and others, for obstructing traffic and creating an environmental nuisance.
“The individuals arrested are: an event planner, Omolara Ajetumobi; celebrant Ogundare Olubunmi; Musician, Ayodele Busuyi; Sound Engineer, Owoeye Adedayo and a vendor, Akinola Akinkunmi.
“The suspects were arrested for blocking Raymond Njoku Road in Southwest, Ikoyi, during a birthday celebration. They will be tried in court in accordance with the laws of the state.”
The commissioner reiterated that no one was above the law and the state would not permit any disregard of state regulations.
The state government had, in times past, arrested several individuals for various environmental violations, including shutting clubs and lounges for noise pollution.
