Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has revealed plans to extend the Blue Line Rail project to Okokomaiko, aiming to further ease transportation across the state.
The expansion is part of the government’s broader commitment to improving urban mobility and infrastructure development in Lagos.
According to punchng.com, Sanwo-Olu stated this while announcing that the state had received 12 more coaches for the Blue Line Rail.
He noted that the additional coaches would enable the train to carry more passengers, thereby reducing waiting time for passengers.
“I’m happy to share that we have taken delivery of three brand-new train sets of 12 coaches in total for the Lagos Blue Line Rail.
“This means shorter wait times and more comfortable trips for everyone using the Blue Line. It’s a step forward in our efforts to make the daily commute in Lagos less stressful and more reliable.
“We’re not stopping here. Work is ongoing to extend the Blue Line all the way to Okokomaiko, and we’re aiming to finish that by 2026.
“I know it’s been a long time coming, but I truly believe we’re building something that will change how we move around this city for the better,” he wrote in a post on his official X handle.
The Blue Line, which commenced passenger operation on September 4, 2023, had moved close to two million passengers in September 2024, according to the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority.
