Professional belly dancer, Acia Legras, won the title in the Egyptian Category at the Belly Dancer of the Universe Competition held in the United States last month. Ms. Legras also teaches the discipline in Bordeaux.
Acia Legras comes from a family of artists. Coming from a mother who was a dancer and a father who was a musician and founder of a folk troupe in La Reunion, Acia was born with rhythm in her veins and has been dancing since childhood.
Heir of a double culture, Eastern and Reunion, she grew up to the sound of oriental music that her mother particularly appreciated. She discovered belly dancing in an intercultural festival with the cast of Port Said for authentic Egyptian folklore.
At a party in France, Acia Legras met Caroline Chatel, a specialist in the discipline of belly dancing, in Bordeaux, and from there, Acia took her first steps into the world of oriental dance.
She then met many international choreographers and in July 2012 picked up first prize in the “Noite de Estrellas” in Portugal. In December 2012, she joined the “Bellydance Evolution” troupe, an American production of international renown.
On February 16, Acia Legras won the prestigious title in the Egyptian Category at the Belly Dancer of the Universe Competition in Long Beach, California, where participants compete in 7 professional disciplines of world champion belly dance.
