The South African (SA) Consulate in Lagos hosted a farewell cocktail dinner for the High Commissioner to Nigeria Honourable High Commissioner LLA Mnguni as he finishes his tour of duty and South African Airways (SAA) and South African Tourism (SAT) expressed gratefulness to the High Commissioner’s contribution to the success story of their great company and playing a fantastic role in facilitating the establishment of South African Tourism.

The farewell dinner which was hosted by Honourable Consul-General, Darkey Africa who heads the SA Consulate in Lagos was in honour of the High Commissioner and recognition of the work he has done during his tour of duty. LLA Mnguni served during some of the challenging incidents that put pressure on political and economic relations: SA Visa challenges, Attacks of foreign nationals in SA, Collapse of the Synagogue Church and
Ebola outbreak (travel challenges), MTN Saga and has been in Nigeria for 05 years 2013 – 2018

Present at the dinner were other SA Stakeholders; SAT, SAA and Corporate SA , SA community and other prominent Nigerian captains of industry. A representative of the SAA acknowledged Mr Mnguni and expressed extreme gratefulness that he was sent to Nigeria as High Commissioner.

“We want to acknowledge you and tell you that we are extremely grateful that you were sent to Nigeria as a High Commissioner and you have assisted us in so many ways , it is not easy being here in Nigeria working as a South African Company but our journey in this country has been extremely successful and the last five years has been sincere, we
have been much more successful than we have ever imagined and South African Airways is grateful for your contribution to the success story of our great company,” the representative was quoted as saying.

“We have had a relationship with you one on one basis as a company, I cannot remember when any one has ever called you high commissioner, we usually call you Baaba and it defines the personal relationship that we have with you beyond that of officious relationship at the high commission.”

“As you go, we wish you the very best, we know that the sky is the limit to whatever service that the nation has called you to do in South Africa or beyond, we wish you the very best and pray for God’s guidance over you.” SAA representative added.

The farewell dinner which held at the Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos was indeed a gathering of two great countries who are evidently destined together to enable the achievement of Africa’s much needed development.

South African Tourism (SAT) also appreciated the commissioner for having been more like a Baaba (Father) than a commissioner. SAT said the HC who has been like a father to the South African community, played an important role in the facilitation of the establishment of SAT office in Nigeria and also officiated the launch and opening of the SAT office on Jan 28 where he was joined by the former Tourism Ministers both from Nigeria and South Africa and added that they will forever be grateful for his guidance and support.

Coincidentally the farewell event took place on 28 Jan exactly 04 years later.

During the meet-and-greet, the Regional Manager – North,West and Central Africa, South African Airways, Ohis Ehimiaghe told TravelogueTv’s Iloaze Blessed-Odidi that Nigeria is big and wide for everyone to go into.

“There are so many places in Nigeria to visit, too many places, is untapped, the potential is huge.”
