The Wonders of Africa webinar resumed today, October 30, 2020 with an exciting lineup of fascinating destinations presented by team leaders from Nigeria, Benin Republic and South Africa.
The first speaker was the Chairman, Board of Trustees of Nigeria Association of Tour Operators (NATOP), Nkereuwem Onung, and team leader representing the West African country.
He highlighted three destinations in Nigeria, namely: the iconic Zuma Rock and the trending Mpape Crush Rock in Abuja and Obudu Mountain Resort in Calabar. His fourth destination was the Kachikally Crocodile Pool and Museum in Bakau, Gambia.
He talked about Gambia being the home to a unique family of crocodiles that lives side by side with humans. The crocodiles are sometimes called tamed alligators because they are not wild whereby you can always touch as well as to sit on them.
The Kachikally crocodile pool is located in the heart of Bakau, about 10 miles (16 km) from Banjul the capital city of Gambia which is a privately owned crocodile pool belonging to the Bojang family of Bakau, one of the founding families and major land owners of the city.
The site entrance wall is colorfully painted with wildlife scenes. Once you get through the entrance, you make your way down a path bordered by large trees frequented by monkeys, insects and birds.
The complex also has a museum of ethnography, a mini-forest nature trail, a souvenir shop, a refreshments bar and the elephant tree.
There is also car parking space just outside the front.
The Kachikally Museum is a community run ethnographic museum and is within the Kachikally complex layout. The museum was open to the public in 2004, and has on display a collection of about 1,000 historic artifacts kept in four African round huts, which details the history of the Bakau area and displays cultural objects from many of the ethnic groups of The Gambia.
The exhibits are divided into various sections: local crafts, music, agriculture, initiation rites and traditional medicine.
He therefore concluded by saying Africa is not a continent of disease, we have survived the pandemic better than it was anticipated and expected by the white worlds.
The 54 countries in Africa are not just countries but a great continent, let our 1.3 billion populations begin to visit Africa and the results would be infrastructural growth, good services, creativity and innovation…
(LET AFRICANS VISIT AFRICA).
