The World Travel Market Africa 2018 took place in Cape Town in April .
One of the speakers was the founder of Women in Tourism, Alessandra Alonso.
Women in Tourism is an international organisation that promotes women entrepreneurs in the industry.
Speaking to Kieno Kammies, Alonso says travel and tourism play a phenomenal role as a contributor to the economy internationally with 10 to 11% global employment.
“But actually, in all respects, women tourism and travel are inherently a very attractive factor to women. Women internationally make up anything between 50 and 70% of employees in the travel and tourism industry.”
