Tourism: WTM Africa joins ITB, ATM, IMEX in postponing tourism event
Reed Exhibitions Africa has confirmed that Africa Travel Week, which comprises World Travel Market Africa and International Market Africa, has cancelled the hosting of the event for this year.
In a statement by the Managing Director, Reed Exhibitions Africa, Carol Weaving, the organisation had to postpone the event still 2021 due the spread of Coronavirus globally.
She said: “We have had to respond to the current coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) and the ongoing conversations with our customers whose welfare is our number one priority. Due to the uncertainty in the region and around the world, with many or our clients facing company travel bans, we have taken the decision to postpone the event to 2021, which was due to take place from 02-08 April 202. Our thoughts are with all those affected in these difficult times” the statement said.
Also, the portfolio director for Africa Travel Week, Megan Oberholzer, added: “We would like to thank the industry for their support in these unprecedented times. All buyers and exhibitors and industry partners will be contacted in the coming days.”
It will be recalled that ITB, Berlin had earlier cancelled its event few hours before it began due COVID-19. Arabian Travel Market (ATM) and IMEX Frankfurt also followed suit in cancelling their event for fear of the spread of coronavirus.
