A Belizean delegation which travelled to Nigeria to participate in the 2015 Carnival Calabar returned from the memorable event on January 1, 2016.

The Carnival Calabar is one of Nigeria’s premier international cultural events, held annually in the municipality of Cross River State. The event is known as the “Africa’s Biggest Street Party”.
The Belizean contingent arrived in the former capital city of Lagos, Nigeria on December 25th. This was the start of their wonderful experience as they witnessed and took part in one of the best organised and culturally-rich festivals. The Belize group included six members of the TITANS Carnival group, D.J. Richie Galvez and the Vice President of the University of Belize Student Government Melody Wagner.
The TITANS carnival group, D.J. Richie and Melody Wagner participated in the road march on the 28th, displaying Belize’s styles of colourful and majestic costumes, along with many other carnival groups from around the world.
While in Nigeria, the Belize delegation was hosted and chaperoned by an official host team. The Honourable Chairman of the Cross River State Carnival Commission Mr. Gabe Onah was in constant communication with the Belize coordinators Mr Hope Amadi and Ms Sharon Palacio until the last day.

The organisers of the Belizean delegation’s special visit to Nigeria include the Belize Representative to Nigeria His Excellency, Dr. Ifeanyi Ifedi. We extend our gratitude to Mr Ikechi and Mr Francis who made sure that the team was well taken care of and that they were kept safe, and also His Excellency the Governor of Cross River State Senator (Prof) Ben Ayade for facilitating the trip for the Belizean delegates to Nigeria.
