Passengers can travel from London to New York within four hours through supersonic jet with the capability of linking hundreds of cities with the expansion of ultra-fast flights.
Around 2,000 planes could be used under this project across 500 routes crisscrossing the planet.
Supersonic travel will extend to vast swathes of travelling public with the ambitious plans outlined by the founder and CEO of Boom Supersonic, Blake Scholl.
This would lessen the impact of Concorde on long-haul travel according to Blake.Scholl is focused on accelerating the long transoceanic trip keeping the economy of the plane in mind so that everyone can afford it.
The future fare is expected to be approximately £2,000 for one-way ticket from London to New York and is similarly priced as the business class seat on conventional subsonic aircraft.
The journey is expected to take three-and-a quarter hours which will half the current journey time.
The high speed travel was becoming a priority for the passengers and it isnot a private jet for the ultra-wealthy.
The technology will be tested by the demonstrator jet next year and its first paying passengers will be carried in 2025.
Till now more than 1,000 simulated wind tunnels tests has been conducted on the 55-seat aircraft which is powered by the turbojet engines.
The project is backed by Virgin and Japan airlines and another unnamed carriers. However, there are concerns regarding the financial viability of the supersonic travel and the environmental impact it will have on people at such a high speed around the planet.
The International Council on Clean Transportation warned of the supersonic passenger flights of not complying with existing fuel efficiency, pollution and noise standards.
Scholl said that Boom Supersonic’s jet will not be a step backwards environmentally and the fuel burn per passenger would be same as the existing business class seats.
To avoid noise restrictions imposed on supersonic jets flying over land, these jets would travel 90-95 percent of their routes over sea.
