Here’s a look at just 10 out of scores of super single ladies in Nigeria’s towering entertainment industry. LANRE ODUKOYA shares why the ladies are unmarried.

GENEVIEVE NNAJI
Belle of Nollywood, she has always been the first to number whenever this subject comes to the fore. And the reason is simple. The 36-yearold is arguably the most prestigious Nigerian actor with highnet worth endorsement deals and a viewers’ delight any day. But at 15, fate struck her like a thunderbolt and her life from then never remained the same. She became a mother of a beautiful girl who is in her 20s today and soon to become a graduate. According to an old finding, the superstar got impregnated by a young man simply called ‘Acura’ by his friends in Egbeda area of Lagos where they lived with their parents. The young man who was a little older than her was said to be an undergraduate of the University of Lagos. But the fine actress had picked up bits and pieces of her life and forged a life that is now the envy of many. The actress had confessed in previous interviews that the fear of ‘failing in marriage’ was the only reason she’s yet to marry. She’d been alleged to have dated Ayo Makun, D’banj, a former vice president, and the latest man to have been romantically linked to the screen goddess, Ishaya Bako, a 29-year-old film director and entrepreneur. The two first met when, Genevieve relocated to Abuja from her Lagos house two years ago. Bako has allegedly involved Genevieve in most of his major business deals which include his vast real estate business in Abuja. Bako was also alleged to have funded and directed Genevieve’s latest movie, ‘Road to Yesterday’.

FUNKE AKINDELE
Funke Akindele, queen of sitcom whose claim to fame was the series titled, “I Need to Know”, is one of the most engaged and affable thespians today. She had a celebrated wedding that was short-lived due to her ex-husband’s alleged infidelity. But prior to that wedding, her romance with a fellow actor, Femi Adebayo (who was happily married with three kids) was frowned at by some members of her industry. The duo got along incredibly well but Adebayo’s wife fought the relationship to a standstill. Alas, Funke gave him up but to bond with another married man who later wrecked their marriage in less than two years. Since then, Funke has been alleged to be in and out of affairs; the latest among whom is famous singer, JJC Skillz. Funke has however kept mum on the reported romance.

BIMBO AKINTOLA
One of Nigeria’s most prolific actors and show hosts, Bimbo Akintola, is unapologetically single. She had said in many interviews that she’d rather die single than screw self into a bondage in the name of marriage. Now in her 40s, the lady of charm and brains said she had no relationship the last time she granted an interview to New Telegraph, but shortly after, another interview revealed that the effervescent actor insists she doesn’t need marriage to be happy. The only known and celebrated romance she had was with Dede Mabiaku with whom she was a friend for two years before the dalliance culminated into dating. The 43-year-old dated Dede for years, but after a while, the duo reviewed the relationship and felt they were going to be better off as friends. So, they called it quits and from that point on remained friends. Bimbo Akintola certainly needs a ‘kind’ of man she’s yet to find and she’d rather remain single than compromise her belief about marriage. More so that her parents have been married for over 50 years.

BISI IBIDAPO-OBE
Elegant Yoruba actor, Bisi Ibidapo-Obe effortlessly courts controversy that one is tempted to believe she enjoys them. She rose to fame in a famous Yoruba flick dubbed “Omo Logbalogba”. The light-skinned thespian has been linked with an incredible number of men, most of whom are from the showbiz industry. She confirmed none as true, but the one that produced a baby boy and the biggest of her controversies involving an eloquent parliamentarian, Sen. Dino Melaye. Though the lawmaker had denied paternity of the child, but Bisi dares him to do a DNA to ascertain the veracity of her claim. Since then, not much has been heard of the lady other than minding her foodstuff business.

MUNACHI ABII
Ex Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria turned rapper, Munachi Abii, 29, was reported to be romantically involved with Pop group, L.O.S band member Olade Brisbe better known as Briss. Expectedly, she debunked the news despite the romantic tweets they both shared. Aside emerging MBGN, her real claim to fame was her outing in P-Square’s music video titled, Ifunaya. She was reported to share a romantic tie with Peter Okoye, half of the singing duo, but she dispelled it; “Look, I know Lola Omotayo very well. I have known her for years and we are really close. All those things you heard or read about us are not true. Peter Okoye and I are friends. I know his family well. I was just invited to be in his video (Ifunanya) and that was it. Nothing more than that. I know how Peter and Lola love each other and I respect their love. I could never do that to them. I could never bring myself to do anything to hurt them.” It’s not quite known who the Munachi is dating at the moment.

RITA DOMINIC
Rita Dominic is the delectable actor who enjoyed the bliss of being paired to act alongside Jim Iyke in those days when they made movie buffs cringe at their chemistry. And when the news portals began to spread a tale of romance involving them, there was nothing other to believe would ensue between two of the best actors whose ‘collabo’ had become a scene to covet. Whether they dated or not, they were inseparable at a time. The beautiful actress whose age one isn’t certain about celebrated 40th birthday about three years ago and strangely, last year, she declared the same age for celebration. Anyway, in her 40s, she’s single, but currently alleged to be in a sizzling romance with another great actor, Femi Jacobs. On turning 40 and about her relationship status last year, she said, “I feel grateful, thankful and excited as well. Not many have the opportunity to get to this number and for the most part, I have had a good life. Yes, I am dating someone and I am in a happy place. I’m good.” She admitted that her man is not in the entertainment industry, she said; “Sorry love. He’s not.”

CHIKA IKE
She married in her early 20s and became the envy of quite a number of her colleagues. But it all turned out to be a façade after the marriage of five years crashed in 2013. Since then, this beautiful actress has ‘rebranded’ her personage and she insists marriage is the last thing on her mind for now. Chika Ike later confessed that the ex-husband, Tony Eberiri was in a habit of beating her and that in one of such fiasco, she lost her pregnancy. After the marital woe, Chika Ike looks twice as charming, goes on vacation at will even in the face of draught of movie roles- this combined with other reasons made many conclude there’s a man behind her recent glow. She’s even more active on the social media now. We learnt she has an eye-popping boutique in Abuja where she boasts of high net worth patrons.

COSSY ORJIAKOR
“I am wedding this year”, queen of boobs, singer, dancer and actress, Cossy Orjiakor, has announced on the social media. Who the lucky man is? Your guess is as good as ours. She said sometime in 2010; “Am single and I will marry a like mind. If you think I am crazy, then I will marry a crazy guy. So, please don’t worry about who will marry me after showing off my pawpawlipos to the world. The crazy guy is somewhere just chilling. So please save your comments”. Cossy Orjiakors marriage, if it finally happens, will be the most talked about of 2016 for obvious reason. Fans are waiting.

DENCIA
At least, this 26-year-old US-based Nigerian singer has been romantically linked with two men in the entertainment circuit. At different times, she was alleged to have dated Banky W and later Kayswitch. But lack of access to her both on the social media and through other correspondence has made it impossible to get her reaction. The Afrocentric singer and entrepreneur had once said her regret was that reporters hardly ever listened to her side of every story before it is published. The last time this reporter interviewed her, she denied being in a relationship. She said she was just recovering from some psychological trauma and was unfit to handle a relationship.

INI EDO
Hers was at first, marriage made in heaven. The celebration of love consummated in Ona Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom was one attended by a host of showbiz stars. Her exhusband, Philip Ehiagwina, lived in the USA while the marriage was still on course. But six years after they signed the dotted lines, there was no fruit of the womb to show for the journey of half a dozen years- it put up some cold war between the couple. They managed the crisis until Philip was also accused of infidelity by Ini Edo. The crossfire began when Philip was no longer comfortable with Ini Edo’s show of affluence. After all, she knows how much actors earn plus the hyped honoraria from endorsement deals. It became messy and ended in divorce. Since that divorce, Ini Edo’s fortune has soared with more wonder-on-wheels added to her garage. Ini Edo has been alleged to be in romantic affair with a few younger lovers in the movie industry, but the Ebony-hued star shrugged it off as a figment of people’s imagination.
