Air Tanzania has inaugurated its first-ever direct passenger service between Dar es Salaam and Muscat, establishing the first scheduled non-stop air link between Tanzania and the Sultanate of Oman in a move expected to boost tourism, trade and business travel between East Africa and the Gulf.
The inaugural flight landed at Muscat International Airport on July 26, 2026, marking a significant milestone in the expansion of Air Tanzania’s international route network and strengthening air connectivity between the two regions.
According to Efficacy News ,the state-owned carrier will operate three weekly flights on the route using its Airbus A220-300 aircraft. The service links Dar es Salaam with Muscat, with the inaugural rotation also including Zanzibar, providing greater travel options for both leisure and business passengers.

The new route is expected to stimulate tourism by making Tanzania’s renowned attractions—including Zanzibar, Mount Kilimanjaro, the Serengeti National Park, and other safari destinations—more accessible to travellers from Oman and the wider Gulf region. At the same time, it offers Tanzanian travellers improved access to Muscat, an important commercial and tourism hub in the Middle East.
Beyond tourism, the direct connection is expected to facilitate business travel, trade and investment by reducing travel times and improving connectivity between the two countries. The route also builds on the longstanding historical and cultural ties linking Oman and the East African coast. The launch forms part of Air Tanzania’s broader strategy to expand its international footprint while positioning Dar es Salaam as a regional aviation hub connected to key destinations across Africa, the Middle East and beyond. The airline’s growing domestic network will also enable passengers arriving from Muscat to connect seamlessly to several destinations within Tanzania.
For Muscat International Airport, the new service adds another African airline to its network and strengthens Oman’s aviation links with East Africa. Airport authorities described the inaugural flight as an important addition to regional connectivity and welcomed the opportunities it creates for tourism and economic cooperation. The launch of the Muscat route underscores Air Tanzania’s continued investment in network expansion as it seeks to strengthen Tanzania’s aviation sector and support the country’s ambitions to grow tourism, trade and international connectivity.
