Africa: Akwa Ibom Appoints Former NATOP President, Ime Udo as Chairman of Hotels and Tourism Board

The Akwa Ibom State Government has appointed Ime Udo, former President of the Nigerian Association of Tour Operators (NATOP), as the new Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Hotels and Tourism Board.

Udo who was also appointed in 2023 as Honorary Special Adviser, to Governor Umo Eno on Tourism, is a respected leader in Nigeria’s tourism industry, widely known for her dedication to promoting domestic tourism and building industry capacity.

She is also a recipient of the prestigious Africa Travel 100 Women Award, which recognizes the most influential women shaping Africa’s travel and tourism landscape.

Udo is also a member of Tourism 100 Club and Naija7wonder group.

Her appointment is seen as a strategic move to boost tourism development in Akwa Ibom State, aligning with the government’s broader vision to position the state as a leading tourism destination in the South-South region of Nigeria.

Tourism stakeholders have welcomed the announcement, citing Udo’s proven leadership, extensive network, and strong advocacy for sustainable tourism.

As Chairman, she is expected to drive initiatives that improve hospitality standards, attract investment, and showcase the state’s rich cultural and natural heritage.
