As preparations for the Christmas season are heating up, the Cross River State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism Development, Mr. Eric Anderson, has undertaken an inspection tour of the Calabar Arts-Crafts and Cultural Village.

Commissioner Anderson was accompanied on the inspection tour by the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Mrs. Stella Oreme Odey, at the premisies of the Cultural Centre Complex, Calabar.

Giving her a detailed brief on the Village, Mr. Anderson, explained that the concept behind the Cultural Village is to recreate the basic traditional village setting and activities such as the raffia-roofed huts, local wrestling, ecetera, for those who for one reason or another can not travel home or for those whose villages have transformed into cities.

Lauding the Governor Ayade administration for always making platforms available for Cross River to showcase her diverse, rich cultural products and services to the world, Mr. Anderson added that the Ministry will use guests response as first hand instruments in its contents appraisal and see ways to improve in the years ahead.

The Culture and Tourism Commissioner further appreciated his colleague for finding time to tour the Village despite her tight schedule while praying that the cordial relationship existing between both Ministries will blossom to its peak.

In her response, the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Mrs. Stella Oreme Odey, said she is blown away by the level of creativity and the idea of reviving the Cultural Village as the mere inspection of the Village already brings back beautiful memories of one’s village.

Mrs. Odey called on everyone to be part of the fun by taking part in the activities the Village will offer this December as the need for local cultural promotion should be stronger as the assimilation of foreign cultures is on the increase with devastating consequences.

On behalf of the Ministry of Local Government Affairs, the Commissioner pledged future ties with the Ministry of Culture and Toursim saying that for good governance to thrive, the symbiotic relationship that exists amongst Ministries, Departments and Agencies, need constant synergy.
