Africa: Council for Freight Forwarders gets new Registrar with the appointment of Chinyere Uromta, as Nwakohu bows out January 31

The Governing Council of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) has approved the appointment of the Director, Regulation and Enforcement, Mrs. Chinyere Cecilia Uromta as the Acting Registrar of the Council, following the tenure expiration of the outgoing Registrar, Barr. Samuel Nwakohu on Tuesday January 31, 2023.

According to Daily Trend, this was part of the resolutions of an emergency General Council Meeting held on Thursday 26th January, 2023 at the council’s Liason Office in Abuja under the Chairmanship of Dr. Abubakar Tsanni, the Chairman of the governing council. In a communique made available to the press after the meeting, the chairman Committee on Media and Publicity of the governing council Hon. Muftahu Ya’u, the CRFFN Committee on Appointment Promotion and Discipline has been mandated to go ahead to start preparations for re-appointment/appointment of a new Registrar.

The communique reads “The council held the meeting as a result of Matters Arising from a letter submitted by the Registrar of the council Barr. Sam Nwakohu during the governing council’s last year end of the year General Council Meeting held in Abuja. “The letter submitted by the council’s Registrar, contained among other, the expiration of his tenure on 31st of January this year.

“Immediately after receiving and reading the letter to the council, the Chairman governing council CRFFN. Dr. Abubakar Tsanni formed an AdHoc Committee with Hon. Efeanyi Isikaku as chairman and four others to study the contents of the letter and advise the council of the way forward. “Following the completion of its assignment and submitting its report, the council therefore, convened today in Abuja to deliberate on next line of action to be taken in respect of the committee’s recommendations.

“The AdHoc committee made important recommendations with reference to the provisions of Public Service Rules as well as the council’s Act. “The committee however, recommended that in order to avoid vacuum after the expiration of the Registrar’s tenure, the council shall start making arrangement for a handover of the Registrars office to the most senior management staff of the council.

“Similarly, the committee also recommends that the Appointment Promotion and Discipline committee of the council be directed to start making preparations for reappointment or appointment of substantive Registrar.”
