The Gambia Tourism Board (GTBoard) has earned two prestigious accolades at the 8th edition of the Accra Weizo Conference, the flagship event of the West African Travel Expo, held recently in Accra, Ghana.

GTBoard was named “Tourism Marketing Agency of the Year – West Africa” and also received the “Champion of Seamless Travel in West Africa” award. These recognitions celebrate GTBoard’s outstanding efforts in promoting Destination Gambia and advancing regional travel integration.

The award ceremony took place on June 27, 2025, at the Accra City Hotel, drawing tourism ministers, director generals of national tourism boards, tour operators, and travel professionals from across West Africa, including delegates from Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Sierra Leone, Ghana, and The Gambia.

Representing The Gambia alongside GTBoard was the Institute of Travel and Tourism of The Gambia (ITTOG), which was honored with the Balafon Travel Award – Champions of West Africa. The award recognizes ITTOG’s vital role in capacity building and human resource development across the region’s tourism industry.

In an earlier statement, the ATQ Publisher, organizers of Accra Weizo, noted that GTBoard’s recognition is a result of its strategic marketing initiatives, innovative branding efforts, and successful partnerships, which have significantly enhanced The Gambia’s tourism profile at both regional and international levels.

Praising ITTOG, ATQ remarked: “The impact of your institute aligns perfectly with the vision of Accra Weizo to promote seamless travel and elevate the quality and competitiveness of tourism services across West Africa. Your ongoing investment in people and knowledge continues to drive this vision forward.”

Now firmly established as a premier tourism and aviation forum in the region, Accra Weizo has grown into a dynamic platform for collaboration among ECOWAS member states. The conference fosters partnerships, shares industry insights, and promotes travel and tourism across the West African sub-region.

Commending both GTBoard and ITTOG, ATQ Publisher Ikechi Uko stated: “We are proud to celebrate your achievements and look forward to deepening regional cooperation and advancing destination development across West Africa.”
