Ghanaian Carrier, Africa World Airlines (AWA) has said it wishes to correct a misleading report circulating on social media, which claims that one of its aircraft developed a technical problem at Kumasi Airport and that passengers were evacuated.
the airline said the report is false adding that no such incident has occurred.
According to the airline, the aircraft in question is AWA’s Embraer E190, which began demonstration flights on 5 November 2026. “These flights are a regulatory requirement of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and must be completed before the aircraft can operate scheduled commercial services”.
“Only flight crew and GCAA inspectors were on board during the demonstration flights. There were no passengers, and therefore no passenger evacuation took place. Demonstration flights are a standard part of introducing a new aircraft type into service, and are conducted under GCAA oversight to confirm operational readiness and safety.”
AWA urges the public and the media to disregard the circulating graphic and to rely only on official AWA channels for accurate information about its operations. The airline reserves the right to take appropriate action against those who knowingly spread false information.
