Chief Olutunde Aboderin, the Mogaji of Aboderin Compound in Ibadanland, has urged the congregation of The Cathedral Church of St. David, Kudeti in Ibadan, Oyo State, to uphold and expand upon the strong foundation established by the church’s early pioneers.

His appeal underscores the importance of preserving the church’s legacy, ensuring its enduring vibrancy, and passing it on to future generations.

According to punchng.com, it was reported that The Cathedral Church of St. David, Kudeti, which is the oldest church in Ibadanland, marked its 170th anniversary.

Aboderin, who is the Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, made this call during his welcome remarks at a programme tagged, “Love Feast” held at the church auditorium in Ibadan.

He said, “Today, we gather not just to commemorate a milestone in the history of our beloved church, but to celebrate the enduring legacy of faith, education, and communal spirit that has shaped the very essence of Ibadanland, South-West Nigeria.

“As we look back on the remarkable journey that began 170 years ago when the German missionary, David Hinderer, laid the foundation of this cathedral, we are reminded of the pioneering spirit that fuelled the propagation of Christianity and education in this region.

“The church, under the visionary leadership of individuals like Hinderer and later Revd Daniel Olubi, Bishop B. Akinyele and Canon E.A. Adigun, all of blessed memories, amongst others, played a pivotal role in bringing the light of knowledge and the message of hope to our people.

“As we gather to celebrate 170 years of faith, education, and community, let us also look forward to the future with hope and determination. Together, we can continue to build on the foundation laid by David Hinderer and the pioneers of our church, ensuring that their legacy remains vibrant and relevant for generations to come.”

In his speech, the Bishop of Anglican Communion, Ibadan South Diocese, Rt. Revd. Akintunde Popoola, also called on the congregation to always pray for the church to continue to wax stronger.
