In efforts to make Imo state a tourist destination and also generate revenue, Imo State government is set to partner with National Commission for Museums and Monuments.
This was made known by the Honourable Commissioner for Tourism Hospitality and Culture Barr. Jerry Egemba during the celebration of the 2024 International Museum Day tagged “Museums for Education and Research” organized by the National Commission for Museums and Monuments in Owerri.
Barr Egemba emphasized that museums are essential to the society as they collect and preserve our objects and materials of religious , Cultural and historical values, stressing that Musuems always have a role to play in the education of future generations.
The Commissioner highlighted that to those who are not as passionate about the potency of museums, It can often be seen that such Institutions are merely places where forgotten objects go to enjoy their final years, arguing that it is not so, as the best introduction to Art is to stroll through a museum.
ln his remarks, the Curator, National Museum, Owerri, Mr Chamberlain Amadi Nwosu congratulated Barr Egemba on his re-appointment as Commissioner for Tourism, Hospitality and Culture and urged him to work tirelessly to promote Imo State to the dream tourism destination In Nigeria and the international Community.
