Mauritius has recorded a significant increase in visitor arrivals from India, with the latest tourism figures showing a 19.1 per cent growth in Indian tourist arrivals, reinforcing the country’s position as one of the Indian market’s preferred island destinations. According to travelworldonline.in, Mauritius welcomed 25,930 Indian travellers between January and mid-May 2026.
Building on this momentum, the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) recently hosted the Mauritius Mega FAM Trip 2026, bringing 20 leading Indian travel trade professionals to the destination from 23 to 29 May. The initiative was aimed at strengthening engagement with the Indian travel trade and enhancing destination knowledge among key travel sellers. During the week-long programme, participants experienced a wide range of tourism offerings, including luxury resorts, cultural attractions, culinary experiences and leisure activities.
The itinerary featured visits to major attractions such as Sugar World, Château de Labourdonnais, Apravasi Ghat, La Citadelle and Île aux Cerfs, along with a Port Louis food tour, a sunset cruise in Grand Baie and networking sessions with tourism stakeholders and hospitality partners. Commenting on the Indian market’s growing importance, Dinesh Burrenchobay, Chairman, Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority, said India remains one of Mauritius’ fastest-growing and most valued source markets, and initiatives such as the Mega FAM Trip help strengthen long-term partnerships with the travel trade.
Sunil Mathapati, Country Manager – India, MTPA, said the Indian travel trade plays a critical role in influencing travel decisions and that first-hand destination experience helps travel professionals better promote Mauritius to their clients. With Indian outbound travel continuing to expand, Mauritius remains a preferred destination for Indian holidaymakers, supported by strong air connectivity, diverse tourism experiences and sustained trade engagement efforts.
