kenya airport deal

Kenya Airports Authority has signed the contract for the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Modernization Project, marking a defining step in the transformation of Kenya’s premier aviation gateway.

The contract was signed by the Principal Secretary for State department for Aviation and Aerospace development, Ms. Teresia Mbaika-CBS, and Mr. Yu Xiaodong, General Manager of China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), in the presence of the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, Davis Chirchir, KAA MD, Moses Wekesa, and other senior government and industry officials.

The project, anchored on the JKIA Master Plan, will significantly expand airport capacity and modernize critical infrastructure. The works will increase the capacity of the existing terminal from 7.5 million passengers per year to 12 million passengers per year, while the new terminal will add an additional 10 million passengers per year, raising JKIA’s total passenger handling capacity to 22 million passengers annually.

Once completed, the project will position JKIA to meet growing passenger and cargo demand while strengthening its role as East Africa’s leading aviation hub and a key driver of Kenya’s economic growth and global connectivity.
