Africa: Kenya Railways Corporation updates passenger pricing for SGR Madaraka Express with economy first and premium options

The Kenya Railways Corporation has announced new passenger fares for its Madaraka Express service on the Standard Gauge Railway, introducing updated pricing for travelers using the popular rail line.

According to tuko.co.ke, the state corporation said the service offers a range of travel options – economy, first class, and premium class, to cater to the diverse needs of passengers.

Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) published fares for the main Nairobi–Mombasa route, the Nairobi–Suswa route, as well as intermediate stations along these corridors.

KRC clarified that children between the ages of three and 11 who travel with adults will pay half the fare. However, the full fare is required for children over 11, while children under the age of three pay nothing

When SGR Phase 2B be completed?
In other news, the SGR Phase 2B extension to Kisumu is expected to be completed by June 2027 after its launch by President William Ruto.

The 264-kilometre project will link the city to the country’s modern railway network, enhancing intermodal connectivity with Lake Victoria and boosting both freight and passenger transport.
