With an eye firmly on nurturing its local travel industry, the Kenyan government is sharpening its focus on the domestic market, making local tourism the core anchor of this year’s Jamhuri Week celebrations. Under the theme “Harnessing Wildlife for Sustainable Tourism Growth,” KWS DG Prof. Erustus Kanga and CS Hon. Rebecca Miano launched the 2025 #JamhuriWeek at the KICC yesterday. The week-long event celebrates Kenya’s unique culture and tourism destinations, running until December 12.

According to Kenya Wildlife Service, Prof. Erustus Kanga message was clear: Conservation is not optional, – it is a national economic, climate, and security priority. Wildlife drives over 75% of Kenya’s tourism appeal, supports millions of livelihoods, safeguards water towers, food systems, clean energy, and strengthens climate resilience.
