A Kenyan government official has taken a dig at CNN news anchor, Anderson Cooper, who welcomed a baby with his gay partner.

Cooper had taken to his social media platforms to announce the arrival of his baby boy, who was conceived and delivered through a surrogate.

Surrogacy refers to a form of pregnancy in which a woman carries and gives birth to a baby for a person who is not her partner or unable to have children.

To Achieve this, eggs from the woman who will carry the baby or from an egg donor are fertilized with sperm from the man or a sperm donor to make an embryo.

Reacting to the news, Dr Ezekiel Mutua, who is the CEO of Kenya Film Classification Board, described the surrogacy process Cooper and his gay patner went through as “warped”.

He wondered why the gay couple needed a “woman” to carry their baby and also give birth in a “normal way”.

“CNN’s Anderson Cooper and his husband yesterday broke the news of their first born son Wyatt Morgan Cooper…… But they had to get a normal woman to get pregnant using his normal seed and carry the child in a normal womb and give birth in a normal way….see the warped logic?,” he tweeted.

Cooper, 52, while sharing the news said growing up as gay, he never thought he would become a father.

He appreciated the surrogate mother who carried the baby until his birth as well as others who made it possible for him to be a father.
“As a gay kid, I never thought it would be possible to have a child, and I’m grateful for all those who have paved the way, and for the doctors and nurses and everyone involved in my son’s birth,” he said.

“Most of all, I am grateful to a remarkable surrogate who carried Wyatt, and watched over him lovingly, and tenderly, and gave birth to him. It is an extraordinary blessing – what she, and all surrogates give to families who cant have children.

“My surrogate has a beautiful family of her own, a wonderfully supportive husband, and kids, and I am incredibly thankful for all the support they have given Wyatt and me. My family is blessed to have this family in our lives.
