Kenya’s Nyahururu Safari

Residents of Ol Kalou turned out in large numbers to witness the historic arrival of the Nyahururu Safari Train, marking the restoration of passenger rail services after a 46-year hiatus.

To mark the launch of freight operations, Hon. Moses Kuria and Kenya Railways Managing Director, Mr. Philip Mainga, flagged off a freight train loaded with fertilizer, underscoring the critical role of rail transport in lowering the cost of logistics, supporting farmers, and stimulating economic growth across the region.

The memorable journey signified the official commencement of operations along the Nairobi–Gilgil–Ol Kalou–Nyahururu route, with the service set to offer two passenger round trips every week alongside dedicated freight services.

Speaking during the event, Hon. Moses Kuria noted that the revival of the railway service is a major milestone for the people of Gilgil, Ol Kalou, Nyahururu and neighbouring areas. He emphasized that the service will provide residents and visitors with a safe, reliable, efficient and affordable mode of transport while opening up new opportunities for trade, tourism and investment.

The revival of the Nyahururu rail line is in line with the UDA Party Manifesto and President William Ruto’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, which prioritizes modern infrastructure as a catalyst for economic growth, job creation and regional development. By reconnecting communities, reducing transportation costs and enhancing market access for farmers and businesses, the project demonstrates the Government’s commitment to building an integrated transport network that supports inclusive growth and improves the livelihoods of ordinary Kenyans.

Present during the occasion were principal Secretary Dr. Patrick Mariru (Defence),UDA Party candidate for the Ol Kalou Constituency by-election, Samuel Muchina Nyagah, Kenya Railways Board Members, and Nyandarua County Members of County Assembly, Stephen Mureithi (Nominated), Patience Manga (Nominated), Samuel Mathu (Mirangine Ward), Peter Thinji (Rurii Ward), Milka Nyambura (Nominated), Esther Wangari (Nominated), Jane Gathira (Nominated), Joyce Munyua (Nominated), and Naomi Ngatia (Nominated).
