Africa: Local King orders Killing of Man Killing Hippopotamus and Meat Shared among Villagers in Kebbi state, north west Nigeria

A notorious hippopotamus that had been terrorising the Yauri River in Kebbi State, have been killed by more than 40 fishermen armed with bows and arrows following an extensive search.

They further went ahead to share its parts as meat to the people. According to FrankTalkNow, the animal was killed on the order of the Governor and enforced by the Emir of Yauri, Zayyanu Abdullahi, after it was said to have killed one of the emir’s staff.

The animal was later ferried in a local dugout canoe to the Palace of District Head of Gungu, Kasimu Aliyu, where it was slaughtered and its parts shared as meat to people. Kebbi state has a large body of water and is renowned for its large fishing community. It hosts the annual Argungu fishing festival. However citing of Hippopotamuses are rare in Kebbi.

The animal can live on both land and water. It could be recalled that a hippopotamus last week attacked and killed a fisher man at Yauri river bank in Yauri local government area of Kebbi state.
