A 50-year-old man, Paul Ofori, has poured palm-nut soup on his wife, Akoma Attaa, at Abuakwa Dadiase in the Atwima Nwabiagya District in the Ashanti Region.
The victim, who is in critical condition, has been rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for treatment.
The Abuakwa District Police Commander, Superintendent of Police Joseph Nyaaba, told The Mirror that Ofori has been arrested and put in police custody to assist in investigations.
He stated that the couple are chop bar operators and that on Tuesday, the suspect left his phone at the bar and his wife answered a call on his phone in his absence.
Superintendent Nyaaba said the caller, a female, is said to have told the victim that she was urgently looking for Mr Ofori.
He said when the victim realised it was a female, she became curious and asked further why the caller needed her husband urgently.
The police commander said the female caller, who never mentioned her name, left a message that Mr Ofori had left his clothes in her room and he should run back for them.
He said this infuriated the victim and she warned the caller not to call the line again, but she delivered the message to her husband when he returned.
Superintendent Nyaaba said when the suspect attempted to enquire more about the caller, the victim got angry and a scuffle broke out between the two.
He said the suspect, who could not control his temper in the heat of the scuffle, ran for a pot of palm-nut soup and poured it on his wife.
He said the police were yet to arraign the suspect. Investigations are still ongoing.
