An unemployed man, who allegedly posed as the founder of the International Godsway Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim, and defrauded two women of GH¢8,000, has been arrested.
Felix Tetteh-Fio was reported to have also had sexual intercourse with the women (name withheld) after swindling them.
The Director of Operations of the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Chief Superintendent Felix Mawusi disclosed this to The Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday.
He said between last year and this year, Tetteh-Fio met one of the women on facebook and proposed love to her, to which she declined.
Chief Supt. Mawusi said after going through the facebook wall of the woman which revealed she worshipped at the International Godsway Church, Tetteh-Fio created another account with the name of Bishop Obinim, the General Overseer and requested to be a friend.
The woman not knowing it was Tetteh-Fio, who was impersonating Bishop Obinim, accepted his friend request and they started chatting on facebook.
The fake Bishop Daniel Obinim, then advised her to accept Tetteh-Fio’s proposal and she obliged, becoming his girlfriend in the belief that it was the spiritual direction from the man of God, Bishop Daniel Obinim.
Chief Supt. Mawusi said Tetteh-Fio subsequently collected GH¢4,000.00 and a Brian Laptop, valued at GH¢2,000.00 from the woman on the pretext of marrying her.
He said the suspect also had sexual intercourse with her thrice following the spiritual prophecy.
According to the police, Tetteh-Fio used the same means to collect GH¢4,000.00 from a friend of the woman.
Chief Supt. Mawusi said when the victims realised that Tetteh-Fio was the same person posing as Obinim to deceive them, they reported the matter to the police and he was arrested at Tema.
