Morocco welcomed nearly 9.4 million tourists in the first half of 2026, representing a 6% increase compared with the same period in 2025, as the North African destination continues to strengthen its position in the international tourism market.
According to zawya.com, the growth has been supported by stronger arrivals from several key international markets. Tourist arrivals from Germany rose 14%, while France and Belgium each recorded 9% growth. The Netherlands increased by 10%, Italy by 6%, the United Kingdom by 4%, and the United States by 9%. Arrivals from Poland recorded particularly strong growth of 32%.
Morocco is also gaining increasing attention among travellers from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Summer 2026 search data from Wego placed Morocco among the five most-searched international destinations by travellers from Saudi Arabia, reflecting growing interest in the country beyond its traditional European markets. The increase in visitor numbers has been accompanied by stronger accommodation performance. Overnight stays in classified tourist establishments rose by 9% by the end of June, with notable increases recorded in destinations including Ouarzazate, Rabat, Agadir, Casablanca, Marrakech and Tangier.
Tourism revenues have also strengthened significantly. Morocco recorded 64.9 billion dirhams in travel receipts during the first half of 2026, representing a 15.9% year-on-year increase. The performance comes as Morocco works towards its ambition of attracting 26 million visitors annually by 2030, with the Middle East increasingly viewed as an important market for future tourism growth. The continued expansion of Morocco’s tourism sector is being supported by its combination of culture, coastline, gastronomy, hospitality and diverse leisure experiences, strengthening its appeal to both established European markets and emerging markets in the Gulf.
