A new campus of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR) is set to officially open in Makurdi, Benue State in the Middle-belt region of Nigeria.
The Makurdi campus will be launched on 30th November 2020. The NIHOTOUR Makurdi campus was originally built by Benue State Government and is now being handed over to NIHOTOUR following a partnership agreement between the Benue State Government and NIHOTOUR.
The agreement between NIHOTOUR and Benue State is to boost manpower and capacity development of youths in the state, in particular, and Nigeria’s North Central Zone as a whole, with the objective of encouraging them to venture into tourism business as a professional career which will offer them gainful employment better than the elusive white collar jobs in line with the Federal government’s efforts to curb unemployment.
It will be recalled that the Benue State Commissioner of Information, Culture and Tourism, Mrs Ngunan Addingi, had on visited the Director General of NIHOTOUR in his office in Abuja, said the Benue state government has demonstrated enough passion and commitment to the growth and development of tourism and hospitality in the state and needed support to accomplish its vision of growing the sector.
While the Benue State Commissioner wished Alhaji Kangiwa a successful tenure, as Director General of the Institute, she strongly solicited for the support and cooperation of the Institute under his watch in bringing about the take-off of tourism and hospitality training in Benue State.
Accordingly, the Makurdi campus of NIHOTOUR will be officially launched on Monday 30th November 2020 by the Honourable Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Muhammed.
The Director General of NIHOTOUR and other management staff of the Institute will equally herald the occasion in the company of Benue State Government officials.
The new Makurdi campus will be the nineth campus operated by NIHOTOUR across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones. The National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR) is a Parastatal of the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture.
NIHOTOUR was established in 1987. The mandate of NIHOTOUR is to provide skills proficiency, technical upgrading programmes and professional knowledge-based education in the hospitality and tourism industry in Nigeria and the West Africa.
