Africa: Nigeria’s Hotel Owners Forum in Abuja gives guidelines for the reopening of facilities

Hotel Owners Forum of Abuja (HOFA), has issued a guideline for the reopening of hospitality facilities in the federal capital territory, following the ease of the COVID-19 lockdown imposed on the hospitality industry and other sectors of the economy.

In a statement signed by the President, HOFA, Dr Chike Ezeudeh, he said operators of hotels in the capital must be adhered to so as to stay safe and have a smooth flow of business.

The guidelines according to the statement include:
1, As directed by the ministry of health and NCDC, Hotels must disinfect their facilities, this is to be done by an approved vendor.
2, The compulsory use of nose mask and hand sanitizer by staff and guest at the entrance and within the hotel.

3, The compulsory use of infrared hand thermometer to check the body temperature of those going into the hotel
4, No crowding at the lobby; floors maybe be marked to indicate the approved social distancing of 2 meters.

5, If possible encourage one way pedestrian movement between entrance and exist to avoid crowding and contact.
6, Display of social distance sign within the hotel to serve as reminder
7, Buffet services should be suspended in our restaurant, indoor bar night clubs and other outlets that makes it difficult to observe social distancing will also remain closed.

8, Event venues should also remain closed.
9, Hotel menu will be displayed electronically or menu list placed in the rooms and it will be a la carte mostly room service
10, Items that are difficult to disinfect including pillows, bed scarves, notepad pamphlets, and pen should be removed from the room.
11, If possible 12 hours of room ventilation after a guest checks out of a room.
