The Group Chief Commercial Officer (GCCO), Ethiopian Airlines, Lemma Yadecha Gudeta, has said recent report of a mid-air collision between the carrier and a Qatar Airways aircraft over Somali airspace are incidences that are possible in the aviation industry.

He said there is no suspect of a foul play about the incidence contrary to insinuations in the sector.

Yadecha Gudeta in an interview said the airline is comfortable with services it is getting from Somali air traffic controllers, adding that the incident is not a serious incident due to reports that the carrier is reviewing.

“We strongly believe that it is something that can happen in the industry. We are comfortable with services that we are getting from Somali air controllers. We strongly believe that it is just an incident that happened and that it is not also a serious incident due to the report that we are reviewing.

“Aircraft have very sophisticated systems to avoid any possible incident of that type. Therefore, we strongly believe that there is no foul play in this incident, rather it is something that will happen in the industry”.
