Africa: Oyo State governor pledges to make Ado-Awaye suspended Lake a tourism hub if re-elected

Upon resumption of his campaign ahead of the March 11 governorship election, in Iseyin local government, Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has pledged that his administration would make Ado-Awaye suspended Lake a tourism hub for South West, if re-elected for a second term.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN),Makinde made the pledge at Ado-Awaye in Iseyin Local Government Area on Monday while campaigning for his re-election. The governor and his political party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday, resumed campaign in the local government area, ahead of the March 11 governorship election.

This is coming after a week break due to the crisis that erupted in some parts of the state as a result of fuel scarcity and new naira notes. At the palace of the Alado of Ado-Awaye, Oba Ademola Folakanmi, Makinde, said the state government would fix the internal roads in the ancient town and build a world-class resort in the town. He noted that Ado-Awaye should be the tourism hub “not only for us in Oyo State but also for the South West region of Nigeria”.

He said that his administration would commence the payment of 10 per cent of local government allocation to the traditional council in the state by end of February.
Earlier in his remarks, the traditional ruler described Makinde as an exceptional governor in the history of the state. He noted that the tourism sector in Ado-Awaye had benefited from the reconstruction of the Ibadan-Iseyin road. He urged the state government to further explore other tourism potential in the axis.

At Iseyin town, the governor met with the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the League of Imams and Alfas. He urged the religious leaders to support the PDP and its candidates in the National Assembly, State Assembly and Governorship elections.

Makinde promised to continue to be fair to all religious faiths in the state. He assured the people that his administration would consolidate on his achievements in every sector, including free and qualitative education, expansion of the state’s economy through agribusiness and infrastructure development, security of lives and property.
