Somalia’s Aviation Industry

Somalia’s aviation sector marked a new milestone on February 20 as newly launched carrier Rayaan Air received its first aircraft, a Fokker 50 turboprop, in the capital Mogadishu.

According to aviationweek.com, the aircraft touched down at Aden Abdulle International Airport, which will serve as the airline’s primary hub, signaling the start of commercial operations for the fledgling carrier.

In a statement shared on its social media platforms, Rayaan Air described the aircraft’s arrival as a foundational step toward strengthening domestic connectivity and supporting Somalia’s broader economic recovery.

Industry observers say the addition of a new operator reflects gradual growth in Somalia’s aviation landscape, with increased private sector participation and renewed investor interest in regional air transport.

Further details regarding Rayaan Air’s planned routes and service commencement are expected in the coming weeks.
