LUXURY TOURISM

Rwanda is stepping up efforts to strengthen its position as a premier luxury tourism destination following discussions between the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) and global luxury travel company Abercrombie & Kent on expanding the company’s presence in the country.

The meeting was held between the Chief Executive Officer of the Rwanda Development Board, Jean-Guy Afrika, and Paul Bauer, Senior Vice President for Destination Management Companies in Africa and Europe at Abercrombie & Kent, one of the world’s leading providers of luxury travel and bespoke tourism experiences.

The discussions centred on Abercrombie & Kent’s proposed investment in Rwanda and its plans to expand operations in the East African nation as part of its long-term strategy to grow its footprint across Africa.

Both parties also explored opportunities to further position Rwanda as a leading destination for high-value, sustainable tourism by leveraging the country’s rich biodiversity, premium hospitality offerings, and conservation-driven tourism model.

The engagement reflects Rwanda’s continued commitment to attracting world-class tourism investors capable of delivering exceptional visitor experiences while supporting sustainable economic development.

Known globally for its luxury tailor-made journeys and exclusive travel experiences, Abercrombie & Kent has established a strong presence across several African destinations. An expanded investment in Rwanda is expected to enhance the country’s appeal among high-spending international travellers seeking authentic wildlife, cultural, and adventure experiences.

Rwanda has in recent years positioned itself as one of Africa’s fastest-growing premium tourism destinations through strategic investments in conservation, luxury accommodation, conference tourism, and destination marketing. The country is renowned for its mountain gorilla trekking experiences in Volcanoes National Park, as well as its growing portfolio of luxury lodges and eco-tourism products.

The meeting between the Rwanda Development Board and Abercrombie & Kent underscores the country’s broader strategy of attracting responsible tourism investments that promote environmental sustainability, create employment opportunities, and generate greater economic value from the tourism sector.

With global demand for luxury and sustainable travel continuing to rise, Rwanda is seeking to reinforce its reputation as a destination where conservation, investment, and high-end tourism converge to deliver unique visitor experiences.
