The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, in collaboration with the Gambia Tourism Board, has officially appointed renowned musician and cultural advocate Sona Jobarteh as the Roaming Tourism Ambassador for The Gambia.
Jobarteh, who is internationally celebrated for her mastery of the kora and her deep commitment to African heritage, is expected to play a key role in promoting The Gambia as a top cultural and tourism destination on the global stage.
According to the Ministry, the appointment was formally confirmed on July 2, 2025, and reflects the GTBoard and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture’s commitment to promoting The Gambia’s rich cultural heritage, creative economy, and tourism potential on the global stage.
Sona Jobarteh, renowned as the first female professional kora player from a griot lineage, has consistently represented The Gambia through her artistry and educational initiatives.
As founder of The Gambia Academy and a global performer, she brings a unique blend of cultural authenticity, educational leadership, and international reach to this new role.
