Tanzania has officially removed Nigerian citizens from its Referred Visa Category, paving the way for Nigerian nationals to follow the country’s standard visa application procedures when travelling to the United Republic of Tanzania.
According to a statement issued by the Tanzania Immigration Services Department, the change follows amendments published in Government Gazette No. 246 of 2026.
With immediate effect, Nigerian nationals travelling to Tanzania are no longer subject to referred visa restrictions. They can now apply through Tanzania’s official immigration online visa portal or obtain visas through designated entry points, in line with the country’s standard visa procedures. The development is expected to simplify the visa process for Nigerian travellers and could further facilitate movement between Nigeria and Tanzania, particularly for tourism, business and other forms of travel.
