Tunisia welcomed more than 5.8 million international tourists by the end of July 2026, maintaining strong momentum in its tourism season and reinforcing the sector’s importance to the country’s economy, according to Muslim Network TV.
The figure, cited from Anes Ben Gharbal, head of communications at Tunisia’s Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts, reflects continued strong international demand for the North African destination during the first seven months of the year.
Tourism remains a major source of foreign currency and economic activity for Tunisia, supporting hotels, restaurants, transport operators, tour companies and other businesses that depend on international visitors. The country’s Mediterranean coastline, beach resorts, historic cities and cultural attractions continue to form the backbone of its tourism offering. Among its prominent attractions is Sidi Bou Said, the picturesque Mediterranean village near Tunis.
The strong visitor numbers point to the continued recovery of Tunisia’s tourism industry following the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and earlier security concerns. The country is also seeking to attract visitors from a broader range of international markets by promoting its combination of beaches, heritage and culture. The performance is particularly significant as Tunisia seeks to strengthen foreign-currency earnings and economic activity, with tourism providing revenue and supporting employment across a wide range of sectors.
