United Nigeria Airlines has achieved a major milestone in its international growth strategy following its admission into the International Air Transport Association Multilateral Interline Traffic Agreement (MITA), a move that positions the carrier for global connectivity and partnerships.

The airline confirmed that its inclusion in the MITA framework, formalised under IATA Memorandum ADMIN/INTERLINE/4811, came after meeting the stringent requirements of PSC Resolution 780.

The development marks a significant transition for United Nigeria Airlines from a primarily domestic operator to a globally recognised carrier capable of seamless collaboration with international airlines.

With MITA membership, the airline can now establish interline and code-sharing agreements with hundreds of IATA-member airlines worldwide, enabling passengers to book single-ticket journeys, enjoy through-checked baggage, and experience smoother connections across multiple carriers.

Industry analysts say the move will significantly expand the airline’s reach beyond its current network, while also improving its ability to attract international transit passengers into Nigeria.

Commenting on the development, the airline’s Public Relations Officer, Chibuike Uloka, described the milestone as transformative for the carrier’s global ambitions.

“This is more than just a regulatory approval; it is a gateway to the world for United Nigeria Airlines. Admission into the MITA network validates our operational standards and aligns us with global best practices in aviation. We are now ready to offer our passengers unparalleled access to global destinations through strategic partnerships,” he said.

Aviation stakeholders say the MITA admission could pave the way for deeper international partnerships, increased passenger traffic, and enhanced competitiveness for the Nigerian carrier in the evolving global aviation market.
